1)What was your inspiration for becoming a hat designer?
R. I have a background in fashion and tailoring myself. A hat is an accessory that completes your outfit and makes you look different every time. I have also always had a love for specialist craftsmanship. “From the heart to the hand” -Dolce & Gabbana
2. What are the key elements that characterize your design style?
R. It has to look fashionable, of course, but it also has to exude craftsmanship. As a designer, it’s up to you to convey your own style.
3. What materials do you prefer to use in creating your hats and why?
R. Especially natural materials, because it has direct contact with your body. They should be of high quality to achieve the best result.
4. How would you describe the creative process behind designing a new hat?
R. Between a client and me as a designer, the end product is client-centred, but you also have to be
able to express your own creativity in your own collection to keep renewing yourself.
5. What challenges do you encounter in the hat fashion industry and how do you address them?
R. It may sound cliché, but all of life is a challenge and we don’t see it as a fashion industry. In fact, we
see it as specialist craftsmanship, because our strength lies in the right hat for the right person. “Style is never out of fashion” – Coco Chanel
6. What is your favorite hat that you’ve ever created, and what is its story?
R. Every hat is a favourite for us if the customer is satisfied and knows how to wear the hat with style.
7. How do you integrate tradition and innovation in hat design?
R. We always want to keep innovating, but always with an eye on the past, present and future. To combine traditional techniques with contemporary flair.
8. What are the current trends in the world of hat fashion and how do they influence your work?
R. It’s good to keep up with all the trends, but we don’t let ourselves be guided by them.
9. Do you have any advice for someone looking to pursue a career in hat design?
R. Whether you are a designer or a maker or both; it starts with a good foundation of knowledge and craftsmanship. From there you can move forward.
10. What message do you want to convey through your hats?
R. You are worth it!
11. Can you share an event or project that you feel has truly highlighted the value of your work as a hat designer?
R. We have had many great moments and know that there are many more to come, but the exhibition at Palazzo Visconti was a highlight because of its ambience.
